4.10.9 "I've Heard About You"

"I've Heard about You"

Deuteronomy 34:1-Joshua 2:24
Luke 13:22-14:6
Psalm 79:1-13
Proverbs 12:26

Ever meet someone and they say, "Oh yeah, I've heard about you!" What crosses your mind? Your first question is probably, "From whom?" You wanna know if it's been from friend or foe. You wanna know if it's been good news or bad. Sometimes we don't know what our reputation is.

In the 2nd Chapter of Joshua, Joshua had sent two spies to Jericho. They stayed at an inn operated by Rahab, who hid them when the city officials came to look for them. She told the spies, "I know perfectly well that your God is going to give my country to you. We are all afraid of you; everyone is terrified if the word 'Israel' is even mentioned. For we have heard how the Lord made a path through the Red Sea for you when you left Egypt! And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan, and how you ruined their land and completely destroyed their people. No wonder we are afraid of you! No one has any fight left in him after hearing things like that, for your God is the supreme God of heaven, not just an ordinary god." (Jos. 2:9-11)

The spies reported back to Joshua, "The Lord will certainly give us the entire land for all the people over there are scared to death of us." (vs.24)

The reputation of God's people had gone before them. It prepared the way for battle. Of course, it was God who had done the great things through them that gave them this reputation, but as we've read, it had to be through their obedience to his direction.

I was thinking today about how a reputation "happens". I don't know that any of us have ever woke up in the morning and said, "Today I'm going to go out and establish my reputation." At the same time, our reputation is established by what we do every day.

Are you living today to establish a reputation? At the end of this day will people say, "Have you heard about [insert your name]? They are one of the most responsible, Godly people I have ever met!" "If you have a problem go see [your name]. She reads the bible and it's given her wisdom. She will pray for you."

A reputation is not established by big things happening to us. It's our consistent response to the mundane. It's how we build a foundation of obedience that places us in a position for God to work miracles in and through us.

We don't need to be thinking, "What great thing can I do?". If our focus is on being continual faithful in the small things and the disciplines of life, we will look back and discover that of no pursuit of our own, something great has been accomplished.

Build your reputation today. In each and every little thing Live the DREAM. When you build the balanced Christian life, you are making a mark for Christ. You are showing people the way.

What will they say when they say, "Hey, I've heard about you..."?

Through the Power of the Spirit,
Live the DREAM!
